The Great Compassion Freeing Livestock Ceremony

The worst karma to be committed is “Killing”, and, the best karmic deed is “Freeing Lives”!
Benevolent Deed: Life is precious! Thus ‘FREEING LIFE’ has strong merit, especially, preventing a life to be ‘killed’.
Before releasing the sea lives into the appropriate natural environment, the presiding Vajra Master Lian Tzi at Lotus Light Temple will be giving tremendous blessings to them. Master will use the great compassionate holy water to purify their negative karma, give them empowerment and the fourfold refuge to these sea lives when the ceremony is proceeded. The Buddhist monks and nuns, and all participants at the ceremony will pray for the sea lives, recite the repentance verse and mantra for their misgivings which made them to reborn as sea creatures, pray and accepting the ‘fourfold refuge’ (Root Guru Living Buddha Lian Sheng, Buddha, Dharma and Sangha) for them. This compassionate ceremony can help them to build a strong infinity with the Buddha, thus, free them from future births in the three lower realms of hells, hungry ghosts and animals. They will be able to reborn in the Pure Land of Western Paradise and attain Enlightenment, and thereafter, they may return to Samsara to help other beings be free of suffering.
The merits from life liberation are varied and boundless. Here are some, according to the Buddha’s teachings –
1. One will be unharmed by war or die by violence.
2. One will attain longevity and healthiness with few illnesses.
(Many pains and illnesses come from the karma of killing.)
3. One will be unharmed by natural disasters and accidents.
4. One will have great offspring for future generations.
5. One will easily attain what one wishes.
6. One will prosper in official positions without obstacles.
7. One will be a source of gratitude to other beings and a source of joy to the Buddhas.
8. One will dissolve vengeance, and vanquish evil influences and worries.
9. One will experience joy and peacefulness in all seasons.
10. One will be able to accumulate merit to be born in Pureland.
The immeasurable merits from Releasing Lives can be dedicated to the people whom we care for and to our ancestor as well. One may dedicate the merits to one’s attached spirits and karmic creditors to untie the negative karmic debts that were created from the past lives.
